Airborne Ltd is the source of the Manuka Honey used in the Wild Ferns Manuka Honey collection. The company is located at Leeston, Canterbury, about 45 km South West of Christchurch. Airborne has been producing New Zealand honeys for more than 100 years.
Unlike the more common MGO-UMF rating system, which is based on the levels of methylglyoxal, Airborne rates its honeys on the basis of pollen count. The company can identify the plant species that were the source of the pollen found in the honey produced. An Airborne Manuka Honey 80+ means that more than 80% on the pollen found in the honey derived from Manuka plants. This is a measurement of the monofloral nature of the honey.
In addition to pollen count, Airborne conducts a number of quality control and grading tests to ensure that the honey produced is of the highest quality available.
